GitHub in Slack

A GitHub Slack integration that reads the code

Ask what pull requests are open or how the code actually works, and ask for a change as a pull request. Kipwise Agent uses your GitHub account, works on its own branch, and merging stays off unless an admin turns it on.

7-day trial on install. No card needed.

Sample data

How GitHub works in Slack

Ask, approve, done.

Ask

In the thread

“What PRs are open on web?” or “how does the refund check work?” The agent answers with the lines it read, linked.

Connect

Once, with your own GitHub login

The agent posts a private link the first time. It reaches only the organizations your workspace has enabled.

Approve

Before it opens anything

A pull request shows its title and repository on a card. It never commits onto your branch.

Read

Answer from the code, not the docs

Non-engineers can check how the code actually works, and engineers stop being interrupted to read it for them.

It lists repos, branches, commits and pull requests, searches code, and reads files, commits and comments.

Sample data

What to ask it first

  • @Kipwise what PRs are open on web?

It lists open pull requests with their state.

  • @Kipwise how does the refund check work?

It reads the actual file and answers with the lines it read, linked.

  • @Kipwise open a PR that fixes the banner copy

It makes the change on its own branch and shows an Approve card before opening the pull request.

  • @Kipwise did the checks pass on the invoice footer PR?

It reads the checks and tells you.

Connecting GitHub

Once, per person
When a request needs GitHub, the agent posts a private link. Only the person who asked can complete it, with their own GitHub login. Nobody shares a token.
Your access
GitHub permissions and branch protection still apply, because the agent uses your own account.
Merging
Off by default. A Kipwise team admin can enable it, after which you can explicitly ask for a merge of one pull request.
Disconnect
Ask the agent to “disconnect my GitHub”. It deletes the access it stored and revokes it at GitHub.
Admin control
A workspace admin can switch GitHub lookups or changes, or a single tool, off.

Questions

Is this a GitHub Slack app?

It is the Kipwise Agent, a Slack app that works with your own GitHub account. Ask it in a thread about open pull requests, checks or code, or to open a pull request on its own branch after an Approve card.

Can it push to my branch?

No. It works on its own branch and opens a pull request. It does not commit onto yours.

Can it merge?

Only if a Kipwise team admin has enabled merging and you explicitly ask for a specific pull request. GitHub permissions and branch protection still apply.

Which repositories can it see?

The ones in the organizations your workspace has enabled, that your own GitHub account can open.

What does it cost?

$10 per user a month, for at least 3 users. That includes $5 of AI credit per person and $2 per person of shared team credit every month. Add it to Slack and the free trial starts on your first message, no card needed.

Can it change things without asking?

No. Before it edits a page, updates a record or posts a message, it shows an Approve or Deny card in the thread. Only the person who asked can approve it, and the card expires after 30 minutes. A denied or expired card runs nothing.

Can an admin switch it off?

Yes. A workspace admin can switch a whole service, or a single tool, off, so a listed ability may be off in your workspace.

Does it work in Microsoft Teams?

Yes. The same agent runs in Microsoft Teams, with the same tools, approvals, memory and scheduled tasks.

Ask for it in the thread

Add it to Slack, connect once, and ask.
