How it works
Kipwise Agent is a Slack app. OneDrive is connected per person from inside Slack, so the agent only ever uses the files you could open yourself in OneDrive. Personal Microsoft accounts and work or school accounts both work.
- Install Kipwise Agent in Slack from kipwise.com/auth/agent/install.
- Ask the agent for a file in any channel or DM, for example @Kipwise Agent find the Acme contract in OneDrive.
- Click “Connect OneDrive” in the agent’s reply and sign in with Microsoft. The link is personal to you and expires in five minutes.
- Done. The agent finishes your request straight away. Teammates connect their own OneDrive the same way; nobody shares a token.
Work or school accounts
Some organisations only let an administrator approve a new app. If Microsoft shows “Need admin approval” when you connect, ask your Microsoft 365 admin to approve Kipwise Agent. Microsoft has not yet verified Kipwise as a publisher, which is why many organisations ask for that approval. Personal Microsoft accounts connect on their own.
What you can ask
- Search your OneDrive by words in a file’s name or content, and list a folder: “which files mention the Q3 budget?”
- Read a file’s text, including text files, PDFs, and Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, so the agent can answer or quote from it. Very long files are cut short and the agent says so.
- Save a new text file into a folder. An existing file of the same name is never replaced.
- Replace the content of a text file, or rename any file. OneDrive keeps earlier versions.
- Move a file to the OneDrive recycle bin, only when you give its exact current name. The agent cannot restore it; you do that in OneDrive.
The agent writes only when you explicitly ask. Every file in a reply links to the real file in OneDrive. It does not browse SharePoint sites or files shared with you, except a shared file that a search turned up.
Permissions and data
- The agent asks Microsoft for sign-in, your basic profile, and read and write access to your own OneDrive files (
Files.ReadWrite), plus offline_access so it does not ask you to sign in again for every request. Nothing else.
- Microsoft enforces your own access on every call.
- Access tokens are stored encrypted and used only while answering your request.
