13 Chrome Extensions for Startups & Entrepreneurs
We recommend keeping a short list of work extensions and limiting what each one can read. An extension with all-sites access can read and change your data on every site you visit, and a work browser is usually logged into your bank, your CRM and your company wiki. Install the two or three extensions below that match a task you do every day, not all of them.
Limit what each extension can see
Before keeping an extension, check its requested permissions as well as its reviews. A time tracker that asks for access to all sites is a bigger risk on a machine logged into your bank than the same tool on a personal laptop. In Chrome, open Manage extensions, select Details on an extension and, next to “Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit”, change site access from On all sites to On specific sites, or to the option that lets it run only when you select it. When two extensions do the same job, pick the one that asks for the narrower access.
Try new extensions in a separate Chrome profile that has no work logins, and move only the ones you keep into your work profile. If a new extension misbehaves or asks for broad access, you find out in a browser where nothing valuable is signed in.

Asana
Asana’s Chrome extension creates a task from any web page, either from highlighted text through the right-click menu or by saving the current URL, and lets you search and edit tasks without leaving the browser. It also works in Microsoft Edge when you install it from the Chrome Web Store.
Toggl Track
The Toggl Track browser extension (formerly Toggl Button) starts and stops timers from inside more than 100 web tools, including Asana, Trello, Notion, GitHub and Jira, or from selected text on any page.

MozBar
MozBar is Moz’s free SEO toolbar for Chrome. It shows Domain Authority, Page Authority and link data for the page or search result you are viewing. You need a Moz account to see the metrics, and some features need a paid Moz plan.
NoFollow
The NoFollow extension highlights links marked nofollow, sponsored or UGC on any page you view, so you can audit your own pages and the sites that link to you. It only shows what is already in the page. The rel attribute on the link is what tells search engines how to treat it.
Buffer
Buffer’s browser extension sends links, images and video clips from any website into Buffer, so you can queue a post without opening the dashboard. Buffer has a free plan.
BuzzSumo
BuzzSumo’s extension shows social engagement and link counts for the page you are on, such as shares and the number of links. You need a BuzzSumo login. BuzzSumo has stopped developing the older version of the extension, so install the latest one it points to.
Grammarly
Grammarly’s Chrome extension proofreads and suggests rewording as you write in Gmail, Google Docs, LinkedIn, Salesforce and many other apps. Because it reads what you type, limit it to the sites where you actually write.
AwesomeScreenshot
Awesome Screenshot takes screenshots, including full pages, lets you annotate them, and records your screen and camera. It lists integrations with Trello, Slack, Asana and Jira for sharing.

Mixmax
Mixmax adds email tracking, sequences, meeting scheduling and CRM sync to your inbox. It has a free tier of 50 recipients a month.
Yesware
Yesware tracks email opens, link clicks and attachment views, with templates, a meeting scheduler and campaigns. The free plan covers basic open tracking and 10 campaign recipients a month.
Hunter
The Hunter Chrome extension lists the email addresses associated with the website you are visiting, with their public sources and discovery dates, and marks each as verified or gives it a confidence score. You can also type a person’s name to find their email.
Start with the permissions: open Manage extensions today, remove any extension you have not used this month, and set the rest to run on specific sites.
